Ever wondered how car detailing services make your car look and smell brand-new? Us too! So, we did a little digging. Here are a few tips for perfecting your car’s exterior and a few tricks of the trade for interior detailing.

Tips for a Shiny Paint Job

Use a clean sponge and rinse it regularly to avoid creating swirl marks on your car’s paint job. As you clean the car, dirt particles that aren’t rinsed out can cause damage to your paint. So, have a separate bucket ready for rinsing out your sponge.

Using a soft microfiber cloth can also help you avoid scratching or damaging your cars paint job with build-up or debris that can become lodged in sponges.

Don’t use wax to buff out swirl marks. If you do happen to create a few swirl marks during the cleaning process use a quality car polish to remove them.

Wax on with a power buffer. Wax off with a soft cloth. A power buffer is a great tool for applying wax or polish. But, using a power buffer to remove the product will likely produce an uneven finish. Instead, use a soft cloth to remove polish and wax.

Tips for Sparkling Glass

Roll down the windows to make sure you clean the very top of the glass. This also keeps the cleaning product from building up in the window jamb and dripping down your clean windows later.

Drying glass surface in two directions can save you time and frustration later. Inevitably, you’re going to get a few streak marks. You don’t want to spend too much time figuring out if the streaks are on the inside or the outside. So, dry the exterior surface vertically and the interior surface horizontally or vice versa. This way, you’ll be able to tell at a glance.

Interior Detailing Tips

Grab some compressed air to remove debris from cracks and crevices your vacuum can’t get to. Compressed air works great for cupholders, console, and vents.

Get stains out of the carpet with diluted degreasers. Products like Purple Power, Goof Off, or Greased Lightning are great for removing stains but can be extremely strong. So, in a spray bottle, create a five-to-one diluted mixture to use as a spot remover on carpets and fabric upholstery.

Use a deodorizing spray to neutralize odors and give your vehicle that new car smell.
