The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta receives its mid-life makeover and sees refreshed styling on the interior and exterior. Under the hood, it gets a new turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder with more power than the outgoing model. The R-Line trim level has been replaced with the Sport trim, which features special 17-inch alloy wheels and an electronically locking front differential. The base S trim now receives an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, automated emergency braking, and blind-spot assist.
There are four trims on offer for the 2022 Jetta range:
With the refresh, the S trim has significantly improved in terms of equipment. The Sport trim sees some exclusive black accents as well as the aforementioned electronic differential. Moving up to SE grants you amenities such as heated front seats and a powered driver seat. SEL is the top-tier trim and includes a powered tilt-and-slide moonroof, a BeatsAudio® speaker system, and more creature comforts.

The 2022 Jetta’s well-appointed interior showcases premium materials and leather seat surfaces on higher trims. The cabin measures 94 cubic feet of volume and can accommodate up to five adults, although four would be more comfortable on longer journeys. The trunk offers 14 cubic feet of space, which is decent for a compact sedan.
All variants of the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta come with a digital instrument cluster, as well as an 8-inch or 10-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. We must also point out that the Sport trim receives Sports Comfort seats in front, as well as sport pedals plus a black headliner.
Higher trims such as the SE-L are luxuriously appointed with heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a powered driver seat with memory, wireless phone charging, and customizable ambient interior lighting.
The 2022 refresh for the Volkswagen Jetta sees a new front and rear bumper design, new wheels, and LED lighting for head and tail lamps across the range. Buyers of the Sport trim receive special 17-inch alloy wheels, black side mirror caps, and a blacked-out front grille.
For 2022, Volkswagen offers a range of eight colors for the Jetta and notes that some colors may be extra-cost options or trim-specific. Those colors are Pure White, Tornado Red, Deep Black Pear:
A significant change for the 2022 Jetta is the replacement of the old 1.4-liter turbo four with a new 1.5-liter turbo four. The new engine generates 158 horsepower, in contrast with the 147 horsepower of the previous unit.
The base spec S trim has a six-speed manual transmission, while the rest of the range receives a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox is an extra-cost option on the S and a worthwhile one to consider.
Some trims also feature steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters for manual gear selection, and the Sport trim comes with the XDS electronic locking differential we've mentioned previously. Car and Driver timed an automatic transmission-equipped 2022 Jetta doing the zero to 60 benchmark in just 7.1 seconds, making it impressively fast for its engine capacity.
