Cars and why we name them
Did you know that October 2nd is “Name Your Car Day?” It is such a strange thing we do once you stop to think about it. We did some of our own research and we have found the answers as to why we name our cars. Keep reading to learn more.
Humans are strange creatures
To best understand why we name vehicles, we have to dig a little into psychology. The term is called Pareidolia, which is the tendency for seeing shapes in clouds, hearing hidden messages in music or seeing faces in inanimate objects. To be clear, this is a normal tendency humans have. Since the front of cars seems to have a personality of their own and look as though they have faces, it is almost natural for us to give them names. Since our vehicle is with us on all our travels, it makes sense for us to form some sort of bond with them.
What are some tips for naming my car?
Now that you know why we do it, maybe it’s time to name your vehicle. While we are often constrained to giving normal names to our kids and pets, with our vehicles, we can get more creative. Somethings to consider before naming your vehicle are the make and model, your personality, the color of the vehicle and the license plate. Some top car names are Betsey, Bessie, Baby, the Beast, Sally, Bertha and Lucy.
