In a time when movies and media are a huge part of our society, it is no surprise that vehicles in movies have their own time to shine. Here are the top 5 most recognizable Volkswagen vehicles seen in movies.
- Herbie: The Love Bug
Is it any surprise that this 1969 movie has the top most recognizable VW you can see in a film? This iconic 1962 VW Beetle is unique in the fact that it is an actual character in the film—something that you didn’t really see outside of the Herbie and later on in the 1958 Plymouth Fury as Christine, until Pixar’s Cars film.
- Back to the Future
Ah, the microbus. Is there anything (other than the Beetle) that is so instantly recognizable? It’s difficult to think so, at least not for us. The 1973 VW Type 2 Van cuts through a bit of the tension in a chase scene by giving it a comical twist as the antagonists chase Marty McFly in a decidedly unthreatening vehicle.
When you think about Footloose, you may not instantly go to the vehicle that Keven Bacon drove in the film. Nevertheless, it is difficult to picture Ren McCormack driving anything other than his 1972 VW Beetle.
- Little Miss Sunshine
This 2006 movie follows the Hoover family on their comedic adventure with twists and turns. Throughout the film, we see the 1979 Type 2 Van once more as the star of the show as it carries them through their adventurous mishaps and family drama.
Another 2006 movie, though this one is more kid-friendly than the previous one. Though Filmore doesn’t have much of a spotlight in the film, he is still a prominent character that brings a smile to everyone’s face as we watch this 1960s VW Type 2 Van.
